Photo tip #2

I don't think you need to spend alot of money on accessories for your camera, but one I would recommend is a polarizer filter. That is one filter that every photographer should have handy for landscapes and general outdoor photos. By reducing glare and unwanted reflections, polarized shots have richer, more saturated colors, especially in the sky.
Some digital cameras can't accommodate filters. One trick that I've used a couple times, if you have a quality pair of sunglasses just slip them over the lens. This works for the smaller point and shoot cameras.
The last Polarizer I bought cost $15 but that's been many years ago. Check with Durys in Nashville, ask for Robert and tell him I sent you-1-615-255-3456.

Photo tip #1

Have you noticed that sometimes your photos come out with a "cool blue" tone? The default white balance sitting for most cameras is auto, which is fine for most of your photo, but does come out on the cool side. When you're doing outdoor portraits and sunny landscapes, try changing your white balance from auto to cloudy. This is like putting a mild warming filter on your camera. It increases the red and yellow colors resulting in a richer and warmer tone.

Strange request this morning...

Very nice lady wants into the studio and says she needs help choosing her child's senior portraits. I asked who did them and she told me that another local photographer did them . I asked why she didn't go to them for help and she said she just wanted mine. We go through 500+ images and I find maybe 6 that she may want. She walks around the studio and ask why mine look different, I tell her that I know posing, lighting and how to get expressions and that I don't need to take 5oo images to get what I want or to confuse my customers. She ask what kind of job I thought the "photographer" did, I tell her that if she likes them that's what matters. She leaves and thanks me for my help.

Changes going on!

We've just added a large format printer that enables us to offer custom made prints done by hand with high definition color that has 20% larger color gamut (or fidelity) than the industry standard. Plus our printing methods have been tested to with stand 400 years without fading. Most studios send out their printing with less quality controls using thin paper that will not last past 50 years compared to our work.

Photography today.

In this digital world there seems to be more "photographers" than ever. You go and buy a automatic camera that does all the thinking for you, isn't P for professional that's on my camera, and you look at the photos and they look "professional" in your mind and think you think I could be a "professional photographer". I could keep my day job and do this parttime. It doesn't matter that I don't have any experience, I don't know anything about lighting or posing but the pictures are pretty. I wouldn't need a business license or pay sales tax. Sounds like a winner to me! It doesn't matter that the customer is the one getting cheated. They won't be paying as much and maybe they're not that great but it's fun and I am a "professional"!
First of all let me say the "P" does not stand for professional but means program. I've posted photos of my studio below, I have a business license and I pay sales tax. I have studied with some of the best photography teachers in the World. I've studied lighting and posing. My camera is set to manual. I have years of experience and this is my job and hobby. I'm here when you need me, we don't have to work around my "day job".
I see photos that the part time "professionals" have made and my standard comment is that's "nice". I have these "professionals" stop by and they can't understand their cameras manual and ask me to show them how to work their camera, I'm very nice about it and show them, but in the back of my mind I know someone is not going to be happy with what they get.
Some of you may think this is not a professional statement, but you know maybe our idea of what a professional is different. I would like to thank everyone that helped make last year the best year ever and this year looking even better!
As Michael Jordan said " It ain't the shoes".

First Citizens Bank Board of Directors

I've banked with First Citizens since I moved to Dyersburg in 1972. Mr. Lipford gave me the loan for my first house in the parking lot, he said "just write a check for it".
